Ombretta
IGT Marca Trevigiana Merlot
Drinking a ‘ombretta’ in Venice is a social ritual, a declaration of friendship and solidarity that is renewed day by day and hour by hour.
The term "ombretta" means shadow and derives from the custom in vogue at the time of the Serenissima Republic of Venice, of keeping the wine in the shade to keep it fresh and not let it deteriorate. It is said in particular that, between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, in the shadow of the bell tower of Piazza San Marco, there were street vendors who during the day moved their banquets and the demijohns of wine to be drunk following the shadow of the bell tower that it moved around the square as the sun moved. OMBRETTA is linked precisely to this concept: the shade of red that represents the culture of drinking wine in our land, a way of saying that we have been handed down for generations and which is part of the most famous phrases of the Venetian dialect. Ombretta is in fact the name of our dachshund (daughter of Ombra), who has become a symbol of our cellar and our 'hospitality manager' as she is the first to welcome people who arrive. The name of this wine evokes and combines two very important elements for our cellar: the link with our territory and its typical features, the link with our dachshunds and the habitat that surrounds us.
On a graphic level, we have represented this message with a glimpse of the stupendous Piazza San Marco in Venice, where Ombretta, like the shadow of red, remains al fresco in the shadow of the bell tower, identifying itself with the shade of red of the cellar of yellow poppies. Enotria Tellus.
